DROPBOX

Above: Refresh Campaign - No voice-over

new look. new soundtrack!

In pre-production meetings, Dropbox emphasized a soundscape that felt floaty and calming while still modern. The goal was to create an inviting, familiar experience with a fresh, forward-thinking edge to align with Dropbox’s innovative identity. The video was produced by The Collected Works.

Float on…

When Dropbox requested a calming, “floaty” atmosphere, I opened the piece with an Om-chant. Using two voices and harmony-engine, I created an immersive pad that slowly faded as the piece evolved.

Dropping the beat

Midway through the film, the soundscape felt stagnant, so we added a burst of energy with a beat drop timed to a stack of papers flying across the screen. We recorded a slinky and card flips to act as a digital drumroll into the beat.

REVERB

I used convolution reverb to immerse the listener in the space and create depth. Adding subtle reverb to the voice-over made it feel as though the listener was moving through the room, enhancing the sense of presence.

DARK MODE

In the second half, the visuals shift from light to dark, but we kept the tone playful. The music evolved into a nursery rhyme-like melody with handheld percussion, symbolizing teamwork and harmony as the film highlighted Dropbox’s new features.

Closing Portal

For the closing, Dropbox wanted a resolution without an abrupt audio logo. We focused on the moment when the portal folds in to reveal the logo, crafting a sound that complemented the visuals and brought everything together.
